Professional Indemnity

Who needs professional indemnity

Professional indemnity isn't just for traditional professions. Any company providing advice, design, specification, certification, inspection, project management or consulting services carries professional liability exposure. In construction and engineering, this includes design and construct contractors, project managers, quantity surveyors and certification providers. In mining, it includes geological consultants, environmental advisers and mine planners. In healthcare, it covers clinical advice, diagnosis and treatment.

What risks we manage

Errors and omissions — covering claims arising from mistakes, oversights or failures in professional services, including design errors, specification mistakes, advisory failures and project management oversights.

Breach of duty — covering allegations of negligent breach of professional duty of care owed to clients and, in some circumstances, third parties who rely on your work.

Defence costs — covering the legal costs of defending claims and regulatory investigations, which often exceed the damages themselves.

Contractual obligations — we review the PI requirements in your key contracts and ensure your policy structure (limits, retroactive dates, extended reporting periods, sub-limits) satisfies the specified requirements.

Key structural issues

Professional indemnity policies are claims-made — they respond to claims made during the policy period, not when the work was performed. This makes retroactive dates, continuity of cover and run-off provisions critically important. A gap in cover or an incorrectly set retroactive date can leave years of past work uninsured. We ensure these structural elements are correct and maintained through renewals and broker transitions.

Not sure your current cover is keeping up?

Most mid-market companies outgrow their insurance program before they realise it. A structured review takes 30 minutes and costs nothing.
